Vision: 

Our community expects RUSD to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars, and I am committed to ensuring the district’s spending reflects the community’s priorities. My execution of fiscal responsibility isn’t just about balancing the budget but also about evaluating and prioritizing resources to ensure that each dollar spent has the maximum available positive impact for our students.

Financial Communication: Increased Transparency

I don't know about you, but looking at the district's adopted budget feels like you need a financial advisor to walk you through it. How can the public reasonably understand and evaluate 20 contract amendments in a single Board meeting? It's not the community's responsibility to decode a 300-page budget or sift through dozens of agenda items to understand what's changing.

The burden should be on the Board to clearly communicate how taxpayer dollars are being allocated, why those decisions are being made, and how those investments support students. I believe our budget summaries and regular financial updates should be easy for everyone in the community to understand. When financial information is clear and accessible, families can better understand the district's priorities, ask informed questions, and build trust in how public resources are being managed.

Maximize Funding Opportunities

If there's money out there with Rowland Unified's name on it, let's go get it. Have we tapped into every available funding option because new state, federal, county, and private grant opportunities become available throughout the year? Review annual reports of grants applied for vs. awarded to understand why grants were not awarded and what we can do to improve & strengthen those chances of being awarded in the future. Continue to review & pursue available state, federal, county, university, and private grant opportunities that align with the district’s priorities & reduce reliance on the general fund. 

Data Decision
The proof is in the data; let’s make sure the data drives conversations and not ends them. Are the district's investments achieving their intended outcomes? Rowland Unified already uses data through the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) to help establish district goals and priorities. As a Board member, I believe it's our responsibility to go a step further by asking the important questions: What's working? What's not? Where are we seeing measurable results?

Measure it → Use data.

Question it → Don't rubber-stamp.

Improve it → Don't settle.

Prove it → Show the results.

Show me the data. Show me the results. If we're investing taxpayer dollars, I want to know it's making a difference.
