Vision:

As a parent, I know firsthand how important it is for families to feel connected and informed. I will advocate for stronger communication, greater transparency, and resources that help parents navigate every stage of their child's education. When schools and families work together, students are better supported both in and out of the classroom.

My Own Story

When my son entered Rowland High School, it felt like a disconnect from his education. As a parent, I wasn't always sure if he was on track to meet CSU or UC admission requirements or the NCAA course requirements needed to compete in college athletics. Learning that NCAA eligibility has its own academic requirements was news to me. It wasn't until his junior year, when I reached out to his counselor because he was fully pursuing wrestling, that I realized I needed to make sure he was eligible in case he was accepted to college for wrestling. His counselor was responsive and helped me understand what was needed. That experience had me thinking about preparing students earlier for college. If you don't have a background in education or a college degree yourself, or if you don't speak or understand the language, how do you know what questions to ask or where to find the information needed to support your child's success? 

Expand & Strengthen Parent Resources

Resource Hub. It’s not that the information doesn’t exist; it’s about knowing what matters, when it matters, and how all the pieces fit together. We need to help families understand what steps to take, when to take them, and where to turn for support. Rowland Unified provides many valuable resources; those resources exist across different departments and school websites. Sometimes this information isn’t always organized from the perspective of a parent trying to navigate the system. We should work to expand & strengthen Rowland parent resources with a parent navigation hub. A place that helps every family understand how to navigate Rowland Unified from TK through high school graduation. An easy-to-navigate parent hub that brings together academic information, college and career planning, student services, extracurricular opportunities, and district resources in one place.
